From 1 May there will be changes in the tram route network – a new route 14, route 2 will be extended to Mīlgrāvis and renamed tram 8

To create new tram route connections and develop the public transport network, from 1 May Rīgas satiksme will open a new tram route 14 connecting Iļģuciems with Ķengarags. The current tram route 2 will be extended to Mīlgrāvis and will run under a new number – 8 – on the route Mīlgrāvis–Tapešu iela. On weekends, some trips will be organised on the section Stacijas laukums–Tapešu iela and will be designated with the route number 8a. There will also be other changes on several existing routes.

New tram route Iļģuciems–Ķengarags (14)

From 1 May, a new tram route 14 will be opened, connecting Iļģuciems with Ķengarags. It will also run low-floor trams, providing more convenient access also towards Iļģuciems. The route will pass by Riga International Bus Station, giving residents of Pārdaugava an easy access to the Central Market area.

Extended tram route 2 and new number – 8

The current tram route 2 will be extended to Mīlgrāvis and will run under a new number – 8 – on the route Mīlgrāvis–Tapešu iela. On weekends, some trips will be organised on the section Stacijas laukums–Tapešu iela and they will be designated with the route number 8a. The traffic intensity will remain similar to the existing tram route 2. Also, passengers will be able to easily transfer to other tram routes, the movements of which will be coordinated with each other.

Changes to tram 5

As the new route 14 will also be available to residents of Iļģuciems in the future, the intervals in the schedule of tram 5 will change. The route Iļģuciems–Mīlgrāvis will be maintained, but the schedules will be changed to increase the intervals between trips. These changes will be fully compensated by the new route 14 trip in the direction of Iļģuciems and route 8 trips in the direction of Mīlgrāvis.

Tram 10 returns to the Central Market with a new direction of movement

Trams will resume running to the Central Market after the Rail Baltica project completes the construction of the overpass in April. Tram 10 will now run anti-clockwise along the Central Market circle.

The route will run from Bišumuiža to 11. novembra krastmala, then along Lastādijas iela and Centrāltirgus iela to the bus stop Autoosta, then along Prāgas iela and 13. janvāra iela back to the usual route.

The route name will remain unchanged and the number of trips will remain the same as before, when the tram ran to Stacijas laukums.

Changes to the schedules of trams 1, 7 and 11

The departure times of tram routes 1, 7 and 11 will be revised to ensure better coordination with tram routes 5, 8, 10 and 14 on the common sections. The number of trips will not be changed, but the allocation of trams between tram depots 3 and 5 will be clarified.
